BEST ADVICE I’VE BEEN GIVEN AS A NEW MOM

When It comes to raising your first child, you are terrified.  You have no idea what you are doing, and no one can prepare you for what is about to come, and how much your life is going to change, how you’re going to feel as a mom, how you will recover, how is it going to effect your marriage, and how you are going to get through those nights!

You do, and you take the advice from all those moms out there, whether it be your aunt, mom, sister, mother in law, sister in law etc..

When you use their advice and nothing is working you tend to get discouraged thinking what am I doing wrong.  Well that comes to my first advice I got by one of my good friends who just had a baby 4 months before me.

*Listen to their advice, but always listen to yourself and to your baby.  EVERY baby is different and what works for them.

That is the truth! I have tried so many things that she does with her baby, and most don’t work, because our babies are so different.  Babies needs are all different.  You just need to listen to what works for them.

My most favorite advice I have been getting and continue to get, is … *No matter how hard things get, just remember none of it lasts forever, and to enjoy every single stage because it flies by.

And it has flown by.  Oaks is already 3 months, so basically out of that newborn phase.  He no longer falls asleep on my chest anymore.  Those newborn snuggles are gone.  It goes go by so fast, but I took that advice and used it from the moment he was born.  And I am SO glad I did.

He now is jabbering lots, and smiles so much.  He giggles a little sometimes.  There are so many fun things to each stage and I have loved every moment.

Being a mom is a new emotion I have never felt before, a very emotional one.  You love them so much and worry so much about them.  I know that doesn’t go away, but my advice would be is to always stay positive.

Sometimes I feel like I am not doing enough, and worry about what my self worth is, but I have to keep reminding myself I am raising a human being and it NOT easy.  It is 24/7 round the clock job.  You don’t get breaks.  Mental breaks at least haha.

It is harder than anything I have ever done, but the most rewarding.  When they smile back at you it just melts your heart and makes it all worth it.

But all this advice I have taken in and used it and it has helped me stay positive.  Hope it will help you too, because being a mom is the best gift in the world!

Today Is my 27th birthday!  I am so grateful to be 27, healthy and alive.

26 was a really good year, obviously.  I got pregnant with Oaks In January and found out February.  Being pregnant wasn’t the easiest, but it definitely was so worth it and I have forgotten the bad things about it haha 🙂 funny how that works.  I do remember that heart burn but I would do it again.

26 taught me a lot of things! For one it taught me how to travel to New York on my own (without husband) As you know I went to NYFW in February, and for the first time ever going to New York I went solo.  I had my friends with me, but going somewhere without my husband was a huge step and it did teach me how to find my own place to eat and to coordinate cabs and ubers, and getting to my flight on time haha 🙂 just small things.  You really don’t realize how much your significant other does for you until they aren’t there.

26 taught me how to be very patient.  Being pregnant teaches you how to be patient, it really does.  You are getting fatter and fatter and more swollen by the minute AND you are SO unbelievably anxious to meet your little one and you have to wait 40 long weeks to do that!  So you can imagine how much patience you have to gain.

26 taught me how to find joy in the small things.  When you are pregnant you are very restricted on things you can do and things you can enjoy like certain foods (sushi) and going on hikes and doing activities, like skiing, wave running, lots of boating etc.  So all those summer activities I was restricted and that is very hard for me because I am very active person.  Also, not being able to work out like I used to killed me, so I have learned that it is the little things in life that bring me joy.

26 taught me whats important.  I had a lot of time with just my husband when we used to constantly go, go, go with our friends, go on friend trips and just constantly hang out with them on weekends.  I think you get caught up in your friends sometimes, and So that time with my husband was so precious to me, and just being with him made me realize how important our time is together.  With just the two of us.

26 taught me to not sweat the small stuff.  If you know me you know I constantly worry about things I can’t control.  So I have learned to just honestly let it go and focus my time on things that I can control.

26 taught me to not give a **** about what people think of me.  Being pregnant is a very vulnerable time, and I gained 35 pounds and just didn’t really feel good about myself, but It really taught me to not care about what people think of me because it really doesn’t matter.  At the end of the day I felt beautiful and plump being pregnant haha 🙂

I saved the best for last. .  Of course you know what is coming, but 26 taught me how to be a mom and brought me so much joy that I cannot even describe in words.  Even though pregnancy was really hard it brought me so much joy knowing what I was creating.

Oaks Tyler taught me how to be his mommy.  On October 14th at 2:24pm was the greatest most amazing memorable day of my life.  When I think of that day I get teared up and butterflies in my tummy.

26 was the greatest year of my life.   I went through so many ups and downs, and learned SO much.    Oaks has been the biggest blessing in so many ways.  Your first born teaches you so many great things, and I keep learning every day how to be his mom.

I cannot wait to see what 27 has in store for me and my new family!  It will be a great year!

Thank you all for the amazing year, and for your amazing support!

I wish you and your families so much joy for 2016!

Happy New Year!
